This Liberty ship was named for Thomas McKean (1734-1817). Thomas McKean was a lawyer, politician, and Founding Father of the United States. McKean was a Delaware delegate to the Continental Congress and signed the Declaration of Independence. McKean served as President of the Continental Congress in 1781 and as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1799-1808.
