This Liberty ship was named for Cushman K. Davis (1838-1900). Cushman Kellog Davis was a lawyer, soldier, and politician. Davis served as an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. Davis was Governor of Minnesota from 1874-1876, and a U.S. Senator from Minnesota from 1887-1900.
