This Liberty ship was named for David Dudley Field (1805-1894). David Dudley Field II was an American lawyer and politician. Field made major contributions to the codification of municipal and international law. Fields was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York in 1877 while serving out the term of Smith Ely.
