This Liberty ship was named for David Stone (1770-1818). David was an American politician from North Carolina. Stone was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina from 1799-1801, a U.S. Senator from North Carolina from 1801-1807 and from 1813-1814, and the governor of North Carolina from 1808-1810.
