Historical Narrative



This Liberty ship was named for David Thompson (1770-1857). David Thompson was a British fur trader, surveyor, and explorer. Thompson worked in Canada as a fur trader and surveyor for the Hudson Bay Company and the North West Company. Thompson traveled extensively throughout North America, mapping more than 1.9 million square miles of territory. Thompson was also the first European to explore and survey the entire length of the Columbia River.
