This Liberty ship was named for Edward R. Squibb (1819-1900). Edward Robinson Squibb was a doctor, chemist, and manufacturer. Squibb began his career as a U.S. Navy surgeon and later went into the pharmaceutical manufacturing business. Squibb was a founder of E. R. Squibb and Sons.
