This Liberty ship was named for Edwin W. Moore (1810-1865). Edwin Ward Moore was an American naval officer. Moore served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1825-1839, and was a commodore and the commander in chief of the navy of the Republic of Texas from 1839-1843.
