Historical Narrative



This Liberty ship was named for Elias Boudinot (1740-1821). Elias Boudinot was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician. Boutinot served as an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Boudinot was a New Jersey delegate to the Continental Congress and served as President of the Continental Congress from 1782-1783. Boudinot served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey from 1789-1795 and was the Director of the U.S. Mint from 1795-1805.
