This Liberty ship was named
for Ephraim Brevard (1744-1781). Ephraim Brevard was a doctor and soldier. Brevard served as colonel and surgeon in the Continental Army and was taken prisoner by the British after the fall of Charleston, South Carolina. Brevard died of illness contracted while a prisoner of war.
