This Liberty ship was named
for Ephraim W. Baughman (1835-1921). Ephraim W. Baughman was a pioneer and steamboat captain. Baughman was the first man issued a federal pilot's license for the Pacific Northwest and was also the first to pilot a steamboat up the Snake River.
