for Ethan A. Hitchcock (1798-1870). Ethan Allen Hitchock was a U.S. Army officer and author. Hitchcock graduated from West Point and fought in the Seminole War and the Mexican-American War. Hitchcock was a major general in the Union Army during the Civil War and held various positions in the War Department.
