This Liberty ship was named for F. T. Frelinghuysen (1817-1885). Frederick Theodore Frelinghuysen was a lawyer and politician. Frelinghuysen served as a U.S. Senator from New Jersey from 1866-1869 and from 1871-1877, and was the U.S. Secretary of State from 1881-1885.
