for Ferdinand R. Hassler (1770-1843). Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler was a mathematician, professor, and surveyor. Hassler was the superintendent of the U.S Coast Survey from 1816-1818 and from 1832-1843, and superintendent of the Bureau of Weights and Measure from 1830-1843.
