This Liberty ship was named for Benjamin A. Fisher (1900-1942). Benjamin A. Fisher served as the Chief Engineer on the American merchant ship SS Alcoa Guide. Fisher was killed when the ship was shelled and sunk by the German U-boat U-123 on April 17, 1942.
