This Liberty ship was named for Benjamin Bourne (1755-1808). Benjamin Bourne was a soldier, jurist, and politician. Bourne served as an ensign and quartermaster in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Bourne was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island from 1790-1796.
