This Liberty ship was named
for Daniel Willard (1861-1942). Daniel
Willard was an American businessman from Vermont. Willard served as the
president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from 1910-1941. During World War I
President Woodrow Wilson appointed Willard chairman of the War Industries
Board. Willard was also president of the Board of Trustees of Johns Hopkins
University from 1925-1941.
