This Liberty ship was named for Jack Singer (1914-1942). Jack Singer was a war correspondent for the International News Service. Singer was mortally wounded aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp when it was torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-19 on September 15, 1942.
