Historical Narrative

This Liberty ship was named after the Am-Mer-Mar Club of New Orleans. Short for American Merchant Marine, the Am-Mer-Mar Club of New Orleans was an organization of women volunteers founded in 1943. The Am-Mer-Mar Club assisted the War Shipping Administration and United Seaman's Service in promoting the health, morale, and welfare of merchant mariners.
