Cause Comments
On 28 March 1943, Japanese dive bombers attacked Oro Bay, New Guinea. Bantam suffered multiple hits from Japanese bombs. The ship caught fire and burned out of control and had to be beached at the head of Oro Bay. On September 24, 1946 the ship was scuttled 36 miles off the Sydney after being filled with unwanted chemical warfare agents.
