1/10/1952 Vessel sank near Cornwall after being damaged in severe weather on December 25, 1952 while west of the English Channel. Despite a severe list, the vessel's famously master stayed with the ship after the passengers and crew had evacuated, and navigated it, with the assistance of rescue ships and later tugs, nearly all the way to Falmouth, UK before it sank.
