This Liberty ship was named for Edward H.
Crockett (1911-1943). Edward Harry Crockett was an Associated Press war
correspondent from Massachusetts. Crockett was killed when the British ship he
was aboard, HMS Welshman, was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-617
on February 1, 1943.
