Historical Narrative

This Liberty ship was named for Edwin Joseph O'Hara (1923-1942). Edwin Joseph O'Hara was a U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Cadet aboard SS Stephen Hopkins who was posthumously decorated for heroism during a gun battle with the German raider Stier, that resulted in the sinking of both vessels. O'Hara single-handedly operated the 4-inch gun before being mortally wounded.

MARAD has no written history for the Liberty ship Edwin Joseph O'Hara at this time.
