This Liberty ship was named for John Sevier (1745-1815). John Sevier was a pioneer, soldier, frontiersman, and politician. Sevier was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina from 1790-1791, Governor of Tennessee from 1796-1801 and again from 1803-1809, and a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee from 1811-1815. Sevier was an important figure in the founding of the State of Tennessee.
