This Liberty ship was named for Manasseh Cutler (1742-1823). Manasseh Cutler was an American clergyman and politician. During the Revolutionary War Cutler served as a chaplain. Cutler was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts from 1801-1805. Cutler was also instrumental in efforts to colonize the Northwest Territory that later became the State of Ohio.
