for Elihu Root (1845-1937). Elihu Root was an American lawyer, politician, and government official. Root served as U.S. Secretary of War from 1899-1904, U.S. Secretary of State from 1905-1909, and U.S. Senator from New York from 1909-1915. Root received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912.
