Historical Narrative

SS American Reliance was a break bulk cargo vessel built for United States Lines in June 1965.  The Maritime Administration acquired the vessel in July 1983 on a trade-in, and joined the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet as part of the National Defense Reserve Fleet.

The Maritime Administration downgraded American Reliance to non-retention status in January 2004; it was sold for dismantlement and departed the fleet on June 24, 2011.
