This Liberty ship was named
for Benjamin Rush (1745-1813). Benjamin
Rush was a physician, politician, and Founding Father of the United States.
Rush was a Pennsylvania delegate to the Continental Congress and signed the
Declaration of Independence. Rush served as the Surgeon General of the
Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Rush was also the founder of
Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.
