This Liberty ship was named for Henry Knox (1750-1806). Henry Knox was a general in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, and a major general in the U.S. Army.  Knox served as the Continental States Secretary at War from 1785-1789, and as the first U.S. Secretary of War from 1789-1794.
