This Liberty ship was named for John Randolph (1774-1883). John Randolph was a planter and politician. Randolph was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia from 1799-1813, 1815-1817, 1819-1825, 1827-1829, and in 1833. He was also a U.S. Senator from Virginia from 1825-1827, and the U.S. Minister to Russia in 1830.
