Historical Narrative

This Liberty ship was named for Adolph Sutro (1830-1898). Adolph Sutro was a German-American mining engineer, philanthropist, and politician. Sutro made a fortune through his engineering involvements in the Comstock Lode and later served as the Mayor of San Francisco from 1895-1897. Many landmarks in San Francisco still bear his name.

MARAD has no written history for the Liberty ship Adolph Sutro at this time.
